You’ve probably heard about charter bus companies that provide trips for passengers in between cities as well as rental coach buses for group trips, and you may have even used one of these buses yourself! Not only are modern coach buses incredibly comfortable and affordable, but they’re also some of the most eco-friendly vehicles on the road today.
Here are just a few specifics about how charter bus companies provide such valuable services while also improving the state of green travel:
- Passenger miles to every gallon of fuel is something that’s very important in the industry of commercial transportation, since multiple passengers can ride the same bus or plane without increasing the amount of fuel used. In this case, charter buses have the best passenger MPG of every other vehicle: they get about 206 passenger miles to every gallon, on average, while trains get about 92 and airplanes get about 44. Single-passenger vehicles, like the cars we drive to work and school today, only get a measly 27 MPG on average for each passenger.
- Recent studies have shown that charter bus companies are effectively reducing their CO2 emissions by using new technology in their bus systems, more so than every other sector of the transportation industry. Motorcoaches are three times as efficient at reducing greenhouse gas emissions than commuter rail lines are, and six times as efficient as city transit buses.
- Finally, not only are more bus companies continuing to invest in buses with higher efficiencies, but the number of passengers choosing to travel via charter bus lines is increasing as well. This industry has been one of the fastest growing industries in the country in recent years — despite the slow economy — and because coach bus companies provide transportation services in remote locations where no other public transportation is available, the number of passenger trips has increased as well. Currently, bus companies provide over 750 million passenger trips per year.
